The weather wasn't great during the day, but as evening approached, the sun came out and we were able to eat outside. It was the boys' turn to cook dinner, so Matze got out a superb American invention they brought back from Wisconsin:
Take a big metal pot, fill it with 20 litres of fat, heat it up to 350° F, chuck in a couple of chicken and some frozen chips, wait a few minutes and hey presto, dinner's ready! No girlie lettuce leaf garnishing tonight. ;-)
Naturally there was the obligatory digestif - in fact two differnt kinds, since the locals boast the akvavit-style "Hinz een" (spelling?) and the more herbal "Wattenläuper".

The latter is in honour of the local 18th Century hero, who saved the crew of a stranded ship by bringing them food every day for a long time. Why the crew didn't just leave the ship and join him for dinner at home I have no idea...
Anyway thank you so much to Rita and Matze for looking after us so well - it was great to see you and the kids. We will try to make Marnerdeich the halfway point of every other tour we do from now on.
I'm gonna have to stop reading this blog of the 'eating tour' as I'm getting starving hungry!
ReplyDeletegot to be something psychological that cycling makes you concentrae on nothing but the next meal!!
Keep up the good cycling and enjoy the next meal, I'm sure you will ;-)
