Day 13: Büsum to Bohmstedt near Husum

Less rain, more wind

We continued up the North Sea side of Schleswig Holstein, which was still hard work since the rain had virtually ceased, but te wind was even stronger (averaging at 67 kmh with stronger gusts).

(note the lack of hooraying today)

Our main obstacle of the day was the dam at the Eider estuary, where we had to get off our bikes to avoid getting blown off!

But after that, things got easier and all we had to overcome were a few of the millions of sheep gates we have come across in the past 2 weeks.

Our reward was lunch in the pretty fishing port of Tönning. Just to keep you updated on the food front, here's what our standard midday meal looks like: A Bismarck herring roll and a fizzy drink.

From then on we made great progress to Husum and further north to the village of Bohmstedt, where Margie's hospitable parents had prepared us a dinner of cold meats, smoked trout and rye bread.

Naturally we continued our tour de schnaps - this time with the local "Geele Köm", a yellow carraway drink which the locals put in their tea.

Today's run: 73 km

Total so far: 788 km
