Day 15: Klanxbüll to Flensburg

Ah, sunshine and a tail wind at last!!

Margie took us back up to Klanxbüll after we had visited her brother's family for coffee. Being a fan, he filled me in on developments at Bayern Munich in the last 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, Margie turned down our offer of supporting us for the rest of the trip and headed back to Berlin. Thanks all the same for a great weekend!

The cycling turned out to be one of the most enjoyable runs in the whole holiday. The warm weather meant we could finally take off our rain gear, while the tail wind meant we hardly needed to pedal at all.

We said goodbye to the North Sea after 2 challenging weeks and looked forward to the (hopefully) more placid Baltic coast. The countryside also changed as we headed east, with a few hills and more forests, which was a pleasant change.

My Extremely Reliable GPS kept dying on me as we popped in and out of Denmark. I explained to Tina that this was due to the interfering signals used by the border guards, but she thinks that's rubbish.

Our destination was Flensburg, a beautiful seaside town that had the added attraction of the "Tummelum", a local open air harbour festival.

We had a nice meal by the water(including the obligatory Flensburger Pils). That was good because we were really hungry after failing to find anywhere to stop for a break on the way.

We ended the evening with a "Flensburger No. 6" - yes, you guessed it: the local schnaps, an Akvavit-style digestif served ice cold.

So the Baltic coast has greeted us with a sunny smile... Let's hope it continues.

Today's run: 76 km

Total so far: 919 km

P.S. Thanks again for all your amusing comments, which we read during our lunch breaks and in the evening. Sorry we're no good at replying to them. It's always a bit of a rush to finish the posts themselves and get back on our bikes. ;-)
