This is our first day cycling along the Baltic towards Lübeck and eventually Rostock. Wow, what a lovely area the Flensburg fjord is! Much more hilly than the rest of Schleswig-Holstein and with a distinctly Scandinavian touch.

The thin purple guiding line on my Extremely Reliable GPS first wanted me to go backwards and then disappeared for the rest of the day's trip. I had no explanation for this, but Tina said that's just because it's rubbish.
We stopped for lunch in Langballigholz, one of many picturesque fishing harbours. For a change we had Thai scampis in batter as we sat in our typically German "beach basket".
Our holiday is really beginning to feel like a SUMMER holiday now. The fine weather makes the countryside so much more enjoyable.
Kappeln is a pretty town with an old windmill and a distinctive, historic "herring gate" - the first of its kind in Germany, I am told.

Looking forward to more of the same as we head on towards Strande on the next stage of our journey.
Today's run: 76 km
Total: 995 km
P.S. On a sadder note, we mourn the loss of a trusty companion, Marly's bike. It made it through Holland, Germany and Sweden (and no doubt many other places around the globe), but was stolen somewhere in North London. Our commiserations, Marly!
Yipphie, you are coming closer to Lübeck and we can´t wait to see you (though Christopher and I are getting somehow nervous about what to serve you for dinner...)
ReplyDeleteWishing you lots of sunshine and tail winds along the Baltic sea,
Sabine and Christopher
Ben, your Extremly Reliable GPS is rubbish! But the landscape is pretty - gets me thinking about changing seasides...
