The early rain eased as we set off around the "Jadebusen" bay. No jade and no bosom to be seen anywhere, but pretty none the less.
It was time to sport my favourite cycling top, a present from Jan, Lolo, Anna and Tom, the American Sector of my family:
My Extremely Reliable GPS kept dying on me as we approached Wilhelmshaven. I explained to Tina that this was due to the radio signals from the military base, but she thinks that's rubbish.
Tossens is a pretty seaside resort, where we found an old-fashioned hotel. We learned that we were actually on a former island, Buttjardingen, which became part of the mainland over the centuries due to the shifting sand. But the locals are still fiercely independent.
So naturally they have their own local schnaps, the Buttjardinger Wumke. Originally invented in the 18th Century for cows with bowel problems, the recipe uses many of the flowers and herbs to be found in the fields. And what's good for cows can't be bad for humans.... "Wumke" comes from the noisy, relieving sound created shortly after consuming the medicine.
Today's run: 90 km
Total: 572 km
Mum says: that's what you, Ben, will look like underneath the shirt as well, if you go on and ride such long tours EVERY DAY! I am very happy to hear that at least, you are tucking in properly at night, and stock up with Schnaps. (Mothers can help themselves, sorry!)
ReplyDeletePlease take care not to ride our beloved Tina to mithereens.
Good luck with the rest of your trip!
The American Sector approves of your attire though worries about your bowel movements. Keep up the mithereening!!
