Day 12: Marnerdeich to Büsum

Weather warning? No problem!

Well, only a little bit. We woke up very late after one and a half Wattenläupers too many. Rita greeted us with coffee and the news that a storm was blowing outside, with loads of rain and head wind. Brilliant!

So after a crisis conference, the committee decided to shorten this stage and only go as far as Büsum, 40 km away, since there was another gale warning and possible thunder storms as well. We probably would have stayed in Marnerdeich another day, but firstly, ick bin ein Engländer and secondly it would have left us a very long stage before meeting up with Margie near Husum at the weekend. So we pressed on heroically - and got completely drenched and battered by the wind in about 2 minutes.

When we arrived in Büsum, Tina's feet were frozen and my ears were very red from the wind. But Tina still just about managed a smile for the camera as she posed in front of the town's lighthouse and Persil ad.

Let's hope for better weather tomorrow! We can be heroes, but please, just for one day.

Today's run: 40 km

Total: 715 km

  1. Bad luck with the weather, it's obviously because I'm not there.. missing you and the tour, I've been doing boat trips this week to make up for it - all the way from Clapton to Mile End in 3 hours, it must be at least 5 miles! Tina I'm glad to read that you've taken over the role of shortcut queen, and I hope Ben's not going on about his navi ALL the time..
What's that Wattenlauper like, I bought a little bottle in Norden but haven't tried it yet..
    lots of love
